Horschel wins Memorial, Lahiri to return for Travelers

Dublin, Ohio, June 6: Billy Horschel starting the final day with a five-shot lead, won by four as he holed a 55-foot eagle putt on the back nine on the 15th hole in the Memorial Tournament. Horschel closed with a card of 72 and a total of 13-under 275 as Aaron Wise (71) was nine-under 271.

Patrick Cantlay (71) and Joaquin Niemann (71) were Tied-third at 281.

India’s Anirban Lahiri missed the cut this week and will now take a two-week break and return for the Travelers Championship. Lahiri is now 56th on the FedExCup standings with the second place at PLAYERS and T-6 at Wells Fargo being his top performances.

With the win, Horschel collected 550 FedExCup points and moved to No. 10 in the standings. He is also projected to move to No. 8 in the Presidents Cup standings. It was his fifth top-10 finish in 15 starts this season.

Cameron Smith, who had the 36-hole lead, also started five shots behind. He had a pair of double bogeys for a 42 on the front nine and was never a factor. He ended T-13.

Niemann, who won The Genesis Invitational, made a strong move tied for third with defending champion Patrick Cantlay (71).

Sahith Theegala (71) was Tied-fifth.

Korean star Sungjae Im secured a timely boost ahead of the U.S. Open after notching his sixth top-10 of the season. The 24-year-old Im concluded his campaign at Muirfield Village with a solid 3-under 69 to finish tied 10th, jumping 25 rungs from his overnight position to end the week on 4-under 284, nine shots back of Horschel.

With one victory to his name this season, Im is projected to rise two spots to 14th on the FedExCup standings and will also consolidate his position on the International Team ranking for the Presidents Cup later this year after starting the week in third place.

Compatriot Si Woo Kim, the 2017 PLAYERS Championship winner, was Asia’s next best finisher in tied 13th place. C.T. Pan of Chinese Taipei closed with a 74 for T53 alongside another Korean K.H Lee, the first-round co-leader, who signed off with a disappointing 82.
