Pandya best among Indian amateurs; Indians finish way behind in team event

Malelane, South Africa, Feb 6: The young Indian trio of Jay Pandya, Anirudh Kamireddypalli and Rohit Dholepatil had a none-too-happy outing at the African Amateur stroke play championship at the famed Leopard Creek golf course.

Pandya was the best among the three Indians with rounds of 74-81-80 (235) and finished T-61 while Dholepatil carded 83-76-82 (241) and Kamireddypalli shot rounds of 84-79-82 (245). All three Indians failed tot make the Top-50 and ties who play the final round.

The lead was shared by Martin Vorster (70-67-76) and Ryan van Velzen (64-66-83) at 213 with James Sugrue of Ireland shooting 69-68-78. The third day saw heavy winds with gusts of upto 30 kmph.

The South African team and the South Africans junior took the top two places in team competition, while Ireland was third. India ended 11th.
