PGA Champs venue set to open for public on May 4 with Covid-19 rules

The TPC at Harding Park, which will be the venue for the PGA Championship 2020 in August, is set to re-open to public on Monday, May 4, 2020.

The San Francisco course had earlier been scheduled to host the 2020 PGA Championship from May 14-17 before the coronavirus pandemic forced a delay. The course has been closed since March 26.

Interestingly, Monday, May 4 is also thee 31stbirthday of Rory McIlroy. A two-time PGA Championship winner, he will be back at the venue for the rescheduled PGA Championship in August. In 2015, McIlroy won the WGC-Cadillac Matchplay title at the TPC Harding Park.

While the PGA Championship is still some time away, the opening of the course, albeit with strict rules vis-a-vis social distancing and much else, raises hopes of golf returning to action.

California Governor. Gavin Newsome has made it clear said that mass gatherings in the state before September are unlikely. Also there will bee a lot of things that would need to be cleared before the Major, which if held in August would become the first on in 2020. The US Open has been scheduled to September 17-20 and the Masters, normally the first of the four Majors in April, is now re-scheduled to November 12-15. The Open, the only Major outside US, scheduled from July 16-19, was cancelled.

The PGA Tour is scheduled to resume its 2020 schedule on June 11 at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth. The tournament, along with the RBC Heritage, Travelers Championship and Rocket Mortgage Classic, are all to be played without spectators.

The TPC Harding Park has announced a set of rules, which are mandatory and in accordance to what has been laid down by the San Francisco Department of Public Health.
