Rashid Khan reaches career-best World Ranking

Rashid Khan was the sole Indian among men to show a rise in Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), as he moved up to 177, up 17 places from his previous 194.  This is also the best OWGR position he has held in his career.

This week Rashid finished Tied-eighth at the SMBC Singapore Open to gain 3.9 points.

In various other events, India’s best in Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship on the European Tour was Sharma in T-59thplace while Anirban Lahiri was T-73 in American Express golf on the PGA Tour.

This week, while Sharma and Gaganjeet Bhullar play on the European Tour’s Omega Dubai Desert Classic, Lahiri will figure at the Farmer’s Insurance Open on the PGA Tour.

As of now, the two Indians in Top-60 for Olympic qualification are Rashid at 55thplace and Shubhankar Sharma in 244thplace.

Since his runner-up finish at the inaugural Classic Golf and Country Club International on the Asian Tour in the first week of September, Rashid has played 13 events and finished in the Top-10 eight times. Of these 13 starts, four have been on events only on the PGTI Indian Tour. In nine Asian Tour starts, he has six Top-10s.

Rashid’s two Asian Tour wins came in 2014, when he won the SAIl-SBI Open and the Chiangmai Classic.

The next best Indian on OWGR is Shubhankar Sharma at 244, while Shiv Kapur is at 281.
