Sachin Chauhan wins Young Masters Golf Tour WAGR Boys title; Riya tops girls section

NOIDA, UP, Nov 1: Sachin Chauhan emerged winner in the first 54-hole event organised by Young Master  Golf Tour for World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). The event was held at Par-68 Jaypee Greens, Wishtown from November 28-30.

With all Covid rules and regulations in place to ensure safety of the players and parents, the tournament saw players from outstation along with the top players of the Delhi NCR area.

In all there were 40 players for the WAGR Boys & WAGR Girls Championship with the event was divided into three age groups  – 13-14,15-18 & 19-24 for both boys and girls.

On Day 1, Sukhman Singh shot a stunning round of 5-under par 63 with six Birdies with other notable scores coming Aryan Kaila 3-under 65, Aarav D Shah 2-under par 66; Zahaan Qureshi and Sachin Chauhan getting 1-under 67 each.

In the girl’s category, Riya Yadav started the tournament strongly with a solid round of with a 1-under par 67 including five birdies while Amritha Mandava and Ragini Navet started with 1-over 67.

On Day 2, Gautam Potdukhe was red hot and carded a sizzling 6-under par 62 with four birdies and an eagle. Other other notable scores were 2-under par 66 by Sachin Chauhan, Aryan Kaila, Akshath Sharma.

Among the girls Kriti Chowhan moved into contention with a superb 3-under par round 65 including birdies. Riya Yadav maintained her consistent play and shot 1-under 67. Ragini Navet, Amritha Mandava and Srihitha Mandava moved up the leader board with rounds of 72.

The final day saw Sachin and Aryan battle it out for the honours. Sachin had to play his best round of the tournament shooting a 3-under par 65 with four birdies of which one came on the last hole to go into a playoff with Aryan Kaila. Amal Jha also shot a 3-under par 65 to get up the leaderboard.

With a birdie on the 18th hole, Sachin Chauhan forced a play-off with Aryan Kaila and managed to pip Aryan on the very first playoff hole to win the Boys event.

In the girl’s competition, it was smooth sailing for Riya Yadav who shot a comfortable 1-over 69 to run away with the girl’s event. Kriti Chowhan and Ragini Navet tried to catch up but were a bit too far behind after 2 rounds.

There was also a Nett competition for boys and girls.

Overall Combined Nett Girls:

  1. Riya Yadav 179; 2. Srihitha Mandava 187; 3. Simar Bal 191.

Best Scores each day: Day 1: Sukhman Singh 63; Day 2: Gautam Potdukhe 62, Day 3: Sachin Chauhan & Amal Jha 65.

19-24 Girls:

  1. Riya Yadav 203.
