Anika finishes second at Sacramento County Women’s Amateur

 July 20:  Anika Varma was unable to produce the kind of form she showed in the first round as she struggled through the front nine in her second round of the 2020 Sacramento County Women’s Amateur Championship. Yet a recovery on the back nine helped her salvage the round and finish in a tie for second.

After going through the front nine in three-over 39, she had another bogey on 14th, where a day earlier she had an ace. From four-over with four holes to go, Anika fought back well to finish with a hat-trick of birdies from 15thto 17thto card 73 for a two-day total of 139 to finish Tied-second. On countback, she was ranked fourth.

Elizabeth Scholtes (68-68) took the top honours with a total of eight-under 136 as three players, Ellie Sand (71-68), Lexi Boras (71-68) and Anika (66-73) finished tied second at five-under 139.

Hanna. Montgomery (70-72) was Tied-fifth.

A student of Granite Bay High School in Roseville, Anika has been hit hard by the pandemic, even though unlike many of her fellow Indians stuck at home, she has been able to train with her coach, Noah Montgomery, and also play local events, including getting a lot of starts on the Cactus Tour, which has seen a lot of LPGA and Ladies European Tour pros also tee up.

July 19:Anika Varma, who was confirmed. For the US Women’s Amateur Championship earlier in the week, celebrated with a superb back nine that included a hole-in-one at the 50th Sacramento County Women’s Scratch Championship on Saturday.

The 16-year-old Anika, who began the day with a bogey, was one-over after eight holes. She then seemed to shift gears as she birdied the ninth, the tenth and the 12th. She went even better on the Par-3 14th, where she aced the Par-3 143-yard hole. She added birdies on 16thand 18thto finish at six-under 66 and a two-shot 72.

She leads by two shots over Kaylyn Noh (68) and Elizabeth Scholtes (68) and by four-over Hanna Montgomery (70).
