Sep 1: Pranavi Urs, who will represent India at the Asian Games at the end of this month, and Sneha Singh, led four Indians into the second stage of the LPGA Qualifying School at Rancho Mirage in California.
Pranavi (76-68-69-71) and Sneha (68-75-69-72) were both Tied-38th, while Sharmila Nicollet, despite a final round 75 after 73-68-73 in the first three rounds, also moved into next stage as she finished T-89.
The top 95 and ties qualified for the second stage of the world’s strongest women’s pro Tour.
The players played on three different courses over four days. The second round cut was made at 125 players, at which stage another Indian, Nikita Arjun was also in. She missed out after a third round 74.
The golfers played at the Mission Hills Arnold Palmer Course, the Indian Well Classic Course and the Mission Hills Dinah Shore course, which also held the fourth and final round.
The cut-off at Top-95 and ties is important as all players will have a status on the Epson Tour for 2024. So, Pranavi, Sneha and Sharmila will have a status alongside Nishtha Madan, who is already in. If you miss the cut, no Epson Tour status is granted, but if you make the cut, you earn Epson Tour status and possibly a few starts in 2024.
Japan’s Suzuka Yamaguchi (68-68-66-70) and Canadian amateur, Savannah Grewal (67-68-66-72), who has an Indian touch, were tied at the top after 72 holes. They were both 15-under.
Two other amateurs, Jensen Castle of the US, and Fiona Xu of Australia were tied for third.
