Golf will be hit further as China has decided to cancel all major sporting events in 2020. That means that WGC-HSBC, a World Golf Championship event, as also the Ladies PGA, both of which were to be held in Shanghai will be cancelled, as per an order from the General Administration of Sports.
In addition, the European Tour will lose the Volvo Championship. The Asian Tour had also pencilled an event in China.
The only sporting event that will likely be held are the trials for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing and the neighbouring city of Zhangjiakou.
The sport to be hit the hardest will be tennis as least six WTA tennis events, including the WTA Finals in Shenzhen in November, will be cancelled.
China also had four ATP tournaments on the schedule.
Among other major events that will not be held are the badminton World Tour Finals in Guangzhou in December, and Formula One’s Shanghai Grand Prix, which was postponed in April to a latter part of the year.
